Winter time is show time here in Minnesota. It is a chance to look ahead to the year and find inspiration on the next project around the house,

The first such show to attend will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium with the Minneapolis Home + Remodeling Show. You can find inspiration at hundreds of vendors and exhibits showcasing remodeling, interior design, sustainability and home improvement ideas.

Every year, there are always some special guests that will be on hand at the Home + Remodeling Show. This year’s lineup includes Tamara Day of HGTV’s “Bargain Mansions,” Lindsey Uselding and Kirsten Meehan of “Renovation 911” on HGTV, and the author of Big Thrift Energy, Virginia Chamlee. These three celebrity guests will have presentations and field questions from attendees about how to use what they show on television and in print towards their own projects. Day will appear on stage on Friday and Saturday, Uselding and Meehan will be exhibiting on Friday and Sunday, while Chamlee will be there every day throughout the show.

The inspiration seeking continues with several show highlights that will showcase ideas and solutions for your home. New this year is Tomorrow’s Designer Showcase, presented by Dunwoody College of Technology. Students from the college are challenged to create a bespoke lighting fixture that will be exhibited at the show.

If you always wanted a cabin in the woods, you could check out the North Country Cabin exhibit, presented by YardHomesMN. They also produce ready-made or customizable homes that can be shipped directly to your property.

As it has been pointed out in previous issues, furniture makes great gifts – even to treat your home. HOM Furniture has set up a series of designer rooms with ideas that will make your home sparkle with the latest designs. In the same vein, you could find inspiration for a table setting at the Tablescapes exhibit. Not just for inside your dining room, but outside on the patio as well.

A home is never truly a home without art. The Home + Remodeling Show will feature an Art Walk. You might just find something beautiful or thought provoking to put up on your walls or around the house from local artists. It is also a way to support our local art community when you purchase one of these items. For more beautiful additions to your home, check out the Flower Market. Hosted and presented by Flower Bar, find true inspiration from nature with an assortment of fresh cut flowers.

One home trend that should be of interest to owners of older homes is Upcycling. This is a way to utilized former parts of homes toward repurposing at your own place. The Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore is hosting a contest to showcase your crafting talents by upcycling a small item for repurposing. Attendees at the show can vote on their favorite project.

Each day at the show will feature a theme day for free admission. On Friday, all active military personnel, veterans, first responders, nurses and doctors will be admitted without charge with a valid ID at the U.S. Bank Stadium Box Office. All current government workers with valid ID will get free admission on Saturday. Sunday is all about teachers, who also get in without charge with valid ID.
