Astrology and queerness go together like peanut butter and jelly! Here’s a look at what the stars have in store for this Pride Month.

The middle of light, airy, adventurous Gemini season lands at the beginning of June. Then, the Sun switches over to the more emotionally-driven Cancer. That is to say, Pride Month tends to set a good stage for both partying and building community, both fleeting and deeply rooted connections.

Especially during these chaotic times, letting go and leaning in are equally powerful ways to challenge the oppressive forces bearing down on us harder than ever.

Mercury enters Cancer at the top of the month, setting the stage for community building through emotional communication. The mind and the heart will fall in line, and it will be easier to think about things on a deeper level. If you’ve been considering coming out, this transit provides a prime opportunity (but, of course, trust your own timing first and foremost). The same goes for letting that gay crush of yours know how you feel. *wink*

A week in, on June 8, the moon enters the last quarter phase in Pisces. In general, the last quarter encourages us to recharge and let go. Though the sun may be in chatty Gemini, this moon wants you to talk less and feel more. Take stock of the feelings the last month or so has left you and just let them be — you don’t have to know what to do about them just yet. If you need somewhere to put these feelings, a creative pursuit will make a good place.

On June 13, Venus enters Leo. Landing on a Saturday, this will be a good opportunity for a luxurious date night with your current lover(s), or perhaps that crush of yours, if you’ve managed to woo them. Furthermore, Pride Month is all about celebrating our ways of loving, and Venus in Leo gives us full permission to do so!

The next day, June 14, is the new moon in Gemini. The blank slate of a new moon will allow us to set goals for the rest of Pride Month, and Gemini encourages us to bounce these ideas off of others and be open to new perspectives. Weather permitting, sit outside with friends, new or old, and chat until the sun goes down — maybe even well after!

A week later, on June 21, Cancer season begins. In the lead-up to annual Pride festivals like Twin Cities Pride and People’s Pride, we are reminded of why these festivities exist at all: the movement to protect and uplift each other as fellow queer folk, as family.

Later that same day, the moon will peak in the first quarter phase in Libra. Libra, another sociable air sign, prioritizes balance, namely that between individual and collective personalities and goals. While Libra champions harmony, it also reminds us that achieving it is never simple. Luckily, the first quarter moon provides the forward momentum to embrace tough conversations for the collective good.

At the same time, the sun in Cancer squares (or lands 90 degrees away from) Neptune in Aries from June 21 through June 30, making it an inopportune time for high-stress matters. Neptune, the planet of collective dreams and imagination, in the movement-focused Aries stalls against the subdued sun in Cancer, creating a feeling of weakened vitality. However, the tough conversations that the first quarter moon in Libra wants us to have don’t have to take the form of direct confrontations. Art, music and drama will remain powerful tools to participate in collective storytelling, spark dialogue and nurture change movements. Go see a play or an art exhibition, or mosh with your friends at a punk house show and take note of how the bass hits your core.

By far the most eventful day this Pride Month will be June 29, when Mercury retrograde begins on the same night as the full moon in Capricorn. This is just after Mars enters Gemini on June 28. This is the astrological equivalent of Wile E. Coyote running smack into a painting of a tunnel while chasing after Roadrunner in “Looney Tunes.”

The full moon is when things come to light and are illuminated. With Capricorn ruled by Saturn, the planet of restriction, and Saturn currently in Aries, this full moon in Capricorn may illuminate restrictions on taking action and asserting independence. Broadly, we will be encouraged to break out of dusty patterns and outdated structures that are holding us back. Appropriately, the moon was full in Capricorn during the Stonewall Uprising, the impetus of the contemporary Pride movement.

What exactly in your own life this will apply to depends on where the moon is activated in your chart, so head on over to the astrologer’s booth at your local Pride celebration for a reading!

Then, of course, there’s the dreaded Mercury retrograde, which will last from June 29 to July 23. Mercury retrograde may cause misunderstandings and mishaps in the realms of communication, technology, learning and travel. With Mercury staying in Cancer throughout this period, these mishaps may target the areas of home, family, security, nurturing relationships and domestic situations. (U-Haulers, beware!) Apologies in advance if that crush of yours from the beginning of the month ends up being too good to be true.

As scary as Mercury retrogrades are made to seem and as confusing as they can actually be, it’s important to remember that clarity can come from chaos, especially by the light of the Capricorn full moon. If chaos arises in your life, look inward for the answer. Where do you need to set firmer boundaries? How can you change in relation to your insecurities?

Not all hope is lost, either. Jupiter entering Leo rounds out the month on June 30, leaving plenty of expansive potential for the rest of the summer. Jupiter in Leo tells us that we encourage growth in ourselves and others by living authentically, and isn’t that what Pride Month is all about? While the concurrent Mercury retrograde may make it harder to speak from the heart, Jupiter in Leo reminds us that actions speak louder than words. Being generous and courageous will inspire others to do the same. It’s these exact qualities that allow us to thrive in a divisive world built upon individualism and fear.

On paper, Pride Month has a beginning and an end. In practice, however, we embody our own history; we live our lives through experiences gained within discrete periods of time. Every day, month, year, is the time to be prideful, especially in a world that tells us we can’t.

Remember, we are made from the same things as stars. They hold more wisdom than you might think.
