After six months of juggling acting on screen and touring, stand-up comedian and actress Fortune Feimster is enjoying being out on the road and focusing solely on her brand-new tour, “Takin’ Care of Biscuits,” which kicked off in April.

The tour will be coming to Rochester, Minn., on June 11 at the Mayo Civic Center Auditorium.

When asked what her favorite part of the tour has been so far, Feimster shares that it is the love that she is receiving while on the road.

“A lot of people know that my family’s going through a lot, and every city I go to, everyone’s asking about my mom and giving me love, and the kindness of this tour has probably stood out more than anything,” she says. “I feel like all the positivity that I put out into the world is coming back tenfold from the people that are showing up for me.”

Visibility Award

On March 21, Feimster was honored with the Visibility Award at the Human Rights Campaign North Carolina’s 30th anniversary dinner. The award recognized her contributions to LGBTQ+ visibility.

“It’s always a really special thing to get recognized by your community,” Feimster shares. “I’ve worked really hard in my career to be authentic and to show people who I am, and part of who I am is being an out gay person, and I’m very proud of that fact.”

“I have always known that representation is so important for our community,” she adds. “I’ve been proud of the work I’ve done as far as playing out characters in many television shows and talking about being gay, so to have my own community see that and appreciate that means a lot to me.”

From Stage to Screen

Fortune Feimster said her comedy is rooted in authenticity, both on and off stage. “What you see is what you get,” she says, adding that she does not present a different version of herself for audiences. Her goal is to always be a good person and treat others well, something she believes comes through in her material and outlook on life.

If that approach inspires others, Feimster says, “that’s really cool.” She also pointed to the atmosphere at her shows as a reflection of that mindset. Audiences bring what she describes as “beautiful energy,” creating spaces that feel positive, welcoming and fun.

Her tours are long and demanding, typically lasting about two years with roughly 150 shows in 100 cities. It begins in smaller comedy clubs, spending three to four months writing and testing new material. Those early performances help shape the foundation of the set.

Feimster’s work then moves to theaters, where the material continues to evolve. Jokes are refined, and stories shift over time. Some pieces improve, while others are replaced. The process, she says, is like a puzzle, with parts moving around until the very end, even up to when it is filmed.

The role of comedy in everyday lives

“This is such a tough time for so many people,” Feimster says. “There’s a lot going on in the world. Now more than ever, it’s unpredictable what’s happening, and I think comedy has become a place where people can escape and laugh in a room with other people.”

She describes it as “the place where you can go to feel good with other people.”

“I really love that as a comedian I get to provide that kind of experience for others,” she says.

Feimster is proud of the work she is doing, focusing on creating stories that bring fun, light and levity. She said audiences who attend her shows often leave feeling a sense of release.

“It’s silly and fun,” she says, adding that people need that kind of experience now more than ever.

Upcoming Projects

Feimster will be playing the role of Will Ferrell’s caddie in his upcoming Netflix golf comedy series, “The Hawk,” set to premiere this summer.

She will also star alongside Nikki Glaser, Kim Kardashian and Brenda Song in Netflix’s upcoming comedy film “The Fifth Wheel,” directed by Eva Longoria. The film is set to release in late 2026 or early 2027.

When she’s not on the stage or on our TV screens, Feimster is an unapologetic homebody who enjoys drinking a glass of wine, taking a dip in the pool and sitting by the fireplace. With her busy schedule, though, those opportunities have been rare. But in the meantime, while she’s “Takin’ Care of Biscuits,” she can rely on her relentlessly positive community to take care of her.
