The Bridge for Youth Hosts Homeless GLBTQ Youth Awareness Fund-raiser

The Bridge for Youth hosted Connect for a Cause: A Homeless GLBTQ Youth Awareness Fund-raiser, sponsored by Heltzer & Burg, on February 26 at The Lounge Night Club in Minneapolis. Special guest Esera Tuaolo signed CDs for those in attendance. This former Vikings player came out as a gay man after he ended his NFL career, and since has supported GLBT causes. He’s in the process of releasing his first solo CD.

A Twin Cities premier resource for youth in crisis, The Bridge for Youth works to ensure a continuum of care to provide shelter and support with the hope of reuniting families whenever possible. In 1970, the Sisters of St. Joseph founded the organization when the order noticed a growing number of unaccompanied youth on the streets of Minneapolis who increasingly were vulnerable to exploitation, prostitution, violence, and illness.

In 2007, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force reported that up to 40 percent of homeless youth identified as GLBT.
