Starting Rumours: Superstage at Innuendo’s New Big Sibling Showcases Superdiva Cee Cee Russell
Innuendo an oblique illusion: HINT, INSINUATION; esp. : a veiled or equivocal reflection on character or reputation [also, a salacious double entendre on…well, we can’t explain it here, as this is a family magazine—but say it a couple of times, and think hard about it!]
Rumor (chiefly British variation: rumour) talk or opinion widely disseminated with no discernible source
In a little more than a year, Innuendo bar in St. Paul has become a popular destination for the Twin Cities GLBT community. Now, owners Sean and Jim Fetterman, who are life partners as well, are expanding into the long-awaited Rumours bar. Together, the two bars will occupy approximately 5,000 square feet.
Sean Fetterman says, “Just a few doors apart on Robert Street in St. Paul, Rumours, from 1986 to 1997—which was then renamed Trikkx—and Innuendo, from 1993 to 1997, were two of the most well-loved bars in Twin Cities history. Since we opened in May 2007, we’ve re-created the cozy ambience of the old Innuendo in the new one. Now, we’re bringing back the friendly club atmosphere of the old Rumours in the new one.”
Indeed, the Fettermans are replicating as closely as possible the physical look of the old Rumours in the new venue. The staff will serve customers from a large bar in the center of the space. DJs will spin for patrons tired on their feet on a capacious new dance floor. An enormous stage will accommodate performances. Last but not least—in what certainly will be a great relief to many customers—larger bathrooms are part of the plans.
The Rumours superstage is showcasing superdiva Cee Cee Russell, the establishment’s new regular headliner. She’s sure to dazzle audiences with her signature impersonations of Tina Turner and Whitney Houston.
Jim Fetterman shares, “In the past year, we’ve become the headquarters for more local GLBT organizations than any Twin Cities gay bar ever has. We’re home to the Minnesota Movie Bears, North Star Gay Rodeo Association, Imperial Court of Minnesota, Kings of Deception, Minnesota Storm Patrol, and Minneapolis Mayhem Rugby Team, among others. We’re proud that these groups raise thousands of dollars annually for local GLBT and HIV/AIDS charities. With our larger facility and new stage, they’ll have more room for their events.”
Look for Rumours to debut in August. Friday and Saturday nights, Innuendo currently is giving away tickets for a pre-Grand Opening Party for its new big sibling. Don’t miss out on the excitement!
