Queer As Folks

Naked Boys Sang for Clare Housing
Lavender Magazine and Wilde Roast Café sponsored Out at the Movies on April 10. The night began with real (almost) naked boys walking around in support of the beneficiary, Clare Housing. After seeing the eye candy, patrons were ready to sit down and enjoy the comedic musical Naked Boys Singing, which features a bunch of strapping young men dancing, prancing, and singing their way across the stage naked. This year’s spring show was a sold-out success. Clare Housing provides quality care and housing for people with HIV so that they may maintain their dignity during any stage of the illness. Guthrie Adds New Awards
The Guthrie Theater has added another five awards to its shelves this year. City Pages cited the Guthrie For Best Stage Production for Peer Gynt, saying, “Mark Rylance tackled the challenging lead role in the ‘strange and unabashedly original show that lived and breathed with vitality.’” In addition, the Guthrie picked up awards for Joel Sass as Best Director with The 9 Parts of Desire, as well as for Sarah Agnew as Best Actress with Major Barbara, The Home Place, and The Syringa Tree. James Craven walked off with Best Actor for The Piano Lesson. The final award went to the Guthrie for Best View of the Riverfront, which is in part thanks to the wonderful design of its new building.
U of M Lavender Celebration and Awards Ceremony
Formerly known as the U of M Lavender Graduation, the U of M Lavender Celebration and Awards Ceremony at the McNamara Alumni Center Main Hall on May 1 spotlighted GLBT and allied students on University of Minnesota campuses. It was an opportunity to recognize and honor the accomplishments of GLBTA students and scholars this past year at the U of M. Participants received rainbow tassels and certificates to mark their achievements. The event was made possible by generous contributions from multiple organizations through the campus.
