The Lion Shall Lie Down with the Larkspur
“Plants & Pets: How To Cohabitate Without Complete Chaos” [Lavender, Feb. 27] was a most informative piece covering everything that has always plagued my garden. I want an animal-friendly refuge to include all of Mother Nature’s creatures as well as the serene peacefulness of the bloom. Thanks for doing the groundwork for me.

A Matter of Clarity
In discussing Doubt [“Milk’s Not the Only Queer Oscar Game in Tinseltown,” Lavender, Feb. 13], I’m sure John Townsend didn’t mean to equate homosexuality with pedophilia. Perhaps he was talking merely about the young boy’s questioning his orientation, and not the supposed acts of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character. However, with [Townsend’s] blending the two together in saying “the intersection of homophobia and race,” I think it’s important to clearly make the distinction.

Any Way You Slice It
I would like to respond to the article “A Piece of Cake” [Lavender, Mar. 28, 2008] with an apologetic tone. I am the owner of P.J. Murphy’s Bakery, and my partner and I pride ourselves in doing anything to satisfy our customers. We do serve individual pieces of cake. My staff member was wrong at best to respond [to columnist John Michael Lerma] in that fashion—[saying individual pieces are not available]. We would like to correct this shortcoming. Please contact myself or Sharon at the bakery. We would love to talk/see you.
