Lavender’s Summer of Pride Kicks Off With Style
Lavender and the Chambers Hotel once again are teaming up to host Pride Central, which benefits The Aliveness Project.
Summer in Minnesota is a thing of beauty. Nine months of cold, bitter, snowy days and wind-whipped nights starting at 4 PM cause Minnesotans to break out en masse for summer.
But the GLBT community does it best. We not only know how to spend an enjoyable day at Lake Calhoun, but also how to do it with style.
What better way to launch the summer of ’09 than with the fifth annual Summer of Pride™ Kickoff Party? On Thursday, June 4, 5:30-9 PM, Lavender will be hosting this initial must-be-at GLBT event of the summer at the Chambers Hotel Rooftop Lounge in Downtown Minneapolis. Guests will get to see the presentation of the fabulous Pride Awards. The 2009 Pride Edition cover artwork, created for Lavender by renowned artist Anthony Whelihan, will be auctioned off to benefit local nonprofits. Along with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, attendees will receive an advance copy of the Lavender Pride Edition.
What would Summer of Pride™ be without the grand Pride Weekend?
Start things off early with Lavender’s Pride Thursday on June 25, beginning at 5:45 PM, at The W Minneapolis. Join friends and coworkers for a night of complimentary hors d’oeuvres, drink specials, and prizes.
Sunday, June 28, is the day of the Pride Parade, the highlight of the weekend. Fellow GLBTers demonstrate their Pride, walking down Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. Lavender and the Chambers Hotel once again are teaming up to host Pride Central, which benefits The Aliveness Project. Partake of the Pride Brunch, 9-11 AM, and then watch the Parade, 11 AM-2 PM. The Chambers not only is on the Parade route, but also offers a spectacular view of the festivities, as guests enjoy a first-class brunch with complimentary gift bags.
After Pride Weekend is over, celebrating your pride need not stop or be put on hold. Another fabulous event, Out in the Stands, takes place Saturday, August 15, as the Twins will take on (and, let’s hope, beat) the Cleveland Indians. It’s the last-ever Summer of Pride™ event at the Metrodome, as the Twins will be playing in their new stadium next year. Before they take us out to the ballgame, join everyone for a Pregame Picnic at the aloft Hotel courtyard at Noon.
Officially send off summer with the Mississippi River Roll on Sunday, September 27, 11 AM-2 PM. Boarding is at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis. With a scrumptious, all-you-can-eat brunch, see the amazing Minnesota fall colors, as you cruise down the Mississippi on the Paradise Lady and Minneapolis Queen tour boats. A Postcruise Happy Hour at Elsie’s, 1:30-3 PM, caps off another amazing summer.
It is, after all, summer in Minnesota, and every true GLBT Minnesotan knows how to spend it: showing Pride, gathering together with friends, and just enjoying the good life that is Summer of Pride™.
