Improv Hits the Floor

The Second City To Perform at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel
Saturday Night Live may be best-known for churning out future comedic stars, but The Second City improv comedy troupe, which has been around longer, has produced many A-listers. Some of them have gone on to Saturday Night Live themselves, including Jim Belushi, John Belushi, John Candy, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, Bill Murray, and Mike Myers, among others in the past 50 years. Founded in 1959, The Second City has become one of the premier training grounds in the country for the comedy world’s best and brightest.
With resident stages in Chicago and Toronto, the legendary comedy company is seen by more than a million guests at each.
The Chicago Tribune, which calls The Second City’s newest show “The Absolute Best Friggin’ Time of Your Life”—giving it four stars—adds that it is “one of the most layered, textured, and thoroughly exciting shows…in years….You find yourself not only laughing your face off, but emotionally invested.”
To help celebrate its half-century mark, The Second City is traveling the country to put on special performances featuring some of the best sketches, songs, and improvisations in its history.
The Second City will provide everyone not only a chance to see the newest comedians in the making, but also an opportunity to catch some of the best and most hilarious satire and cutting-edge improvisation to be found anywhere—something Saturday Night Live has been lacking the past few years.
The Second City promises that no topic or subject matter is off-limits. Anyone who has seen Minneapolis’s own Brave New Workshop or an episode of Saturday Night Live (back when it was funny) knows that improv comedy can bring forth some of the best laugh-out-loud moments. When it’s the company that has spawned some of the world’s best comedians, this is definitely a show not to be missed.
