GLBT Life & Wedding Expo
It’s a beautiful summer day in June. The wedding ceremony went off without a hitch; the reception, full of elegant decor and food to amaze the masses, was full of delightfully intoxicated friends and family; and the happy couple of honor were at peace. The wedding they had been dreaming of and planning for the past year finally had come together flawlessly.
Who knew such a peacefully blissful day like that could have come together after seemingly endless months of migraine headaches, pull-your-hair-out stress, and enough crying and fighting to last a happily married lifetime?
Well, here to help out again is the fifth annual GLBT Life & Wedding Expo, ready to ease some of those commonly repeated wedding stressors.
On October 26, Noon to 4 PM, the Park Plaza Hotel will be the venue for the wedding expo it has produced and hosted for the past four years. It features live entertainment, food, and drinks, plus a men’s and women’s fashion show (at 1 and 3 PM).
Expo vendors are eager to provide a guiding hand for your special day: photography studios, cake designers, travel and vacation planners, chefs, reception site hosts, and financial advisers.
The event, which has grown increasingly successful since its inaugural year, has expanded and improved this year, according to Christopher Westlund, the “Most Fabulous Wedding Coordinator Around.”
“There has always been a consistent flow with the number of GLBT weddings over the past few years,” Westlund says. “The constant discussions of GLBT marriage on a national scene in recent years has kept the idea at the forefront of people’s minds. I am meeting many couples flying to places such as Vancouver, Massachusetts, and California to have a wedding
ceremony, and then returning to Minnesota to hold a reception to celebrate their union with friends and family. As more and more states in this country recognize GLBT marriages and unions, we will continue to see an increase in couples wanting to have a wedding of their own.”
Greater attendance has led to a surge in vendor response as well.
As Westlund explains, “The addition of new vendors is always wonderful to see. With more and more businesses wanting to participate year after year, it shows a real commitment to the GLBT community and their support for GLBT weddings.”
A $5 admission will be charged, with all proceeds going to OutFront Minnesota. A vacation giveaway, including round-trip airfare, along with two nights accommodation for two adults to one of a list of cities of their choosing, also will entice attendees. And did we mention free wedding cake samples, hors d’oeuvres, and complimentary champagne?
“Civil union, commitment ceremony, wedding—whatever you want to call it, if you and your partner have discussed it, then this expo is for you,” Westlund remarks. “It can be frustrating and challenging to plan and find vendors, with so many traditionally focused wedding expos out there. The GLBT Life & Wedding Expo offers a welcoming environment, with people and businesses dedicated to making your special day everything you dream of.”
