Crowns and Gowns: Imperial Court of Minnesota Hosts Coronation XVII

Although it’s primarily a fund-raising organization bringing in thousands of dollars annually for local charities, the Imperial Court of Minnesota (ICOM), founded in 1992, does so by hosting fun drag shows with plenty crowns and gowns. Over the next two weeks, ICOM is mounting a series of events culminating in its grandest event of the year, Coronation XVII: “Minnesota State Fair, Everything on a Stick,” on August 16. That night, Empress XVI, Helen Back, steps down after a very successful reign. Candidate Billie La Tease Austin will be crowned Empress XVII, provided that she receives the required number of votes in an uncontested election.
