Slut Club, a new confrontational and very original comedy by writer/directors Lara Avery and Sally Franson, has become arguably the most controversial, not to mention, a big-selling hit at this year’s Minnesota Fringe Festival. Five women lay their cards on the table about socially unacceptable views of female sexual expression and extra-marital romance.

Alana Horton plays Rita, a woman who clings to illusions about the trustworthiness of men. She shares “I’ve loved working with Slut Club because I think the show demands that conversations that are often left unvoiced be spoken. It’s a space where emotions are okay to have, where confrontations may happen, where tensions exist, and what comes out of it isn’t always pretty or clean but it’s real and it demands your attention. We’re not hiding. The whole process has been a lot about creating a space of trust and love and support from which to create art from. That’s beautiful, and it’s something I’ve not always found in other theatrical spaces. I think there’s something really unique about seven women coming together in that kind of spirit.”
