Even Post-Holidays, BNW’s Extended Run of Fifty Shades Sex Spoof Is Well Worth Seeing

It’s the final weekend of its extended run. Brave New Workshop catches the wave of the ‘sex’-sational bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey by using it as a springboard to laugh at sexual foibles as they flesh out during holiday season. The results are not only often very funny but show that the region’s premiere comedy theater continues it’s upward re-emergence as theater to be reckoned with after a long period of too many slapdash efforts.
Imagine a gingerbread man (Andy Hilbrands) with the creamy vocal sex appeal of Barry White or the drunken release of inhibitions at a holiday party that would likely lead one to the unemployment line. Lauren Anderson’s rendition of Frosty the Snowman and Taj Ruler’s hilariously sexualized take on The Night Before Christmas are mischievous devil-may-care highlights. The fourth member of the troupe, Bobby Gardner, adds madcap support to this very pleasurable show.
