Socially Savvy: For Valentine’s Day, Treat Yourself

Holidays come with their own levels of expectation—turkey for one, champagne toasts on another. It is no wonder that Valentine’s Day may require the most daunting of all expectations: a willing participant. Sending cards, delivering flowers, sharing chocolates, dinner reservations and the rest … it’s an overwhelming holiday if you’re short a partner or, worse yet, you have a partner who refuses to participate!
So, let us manage our expectations and find some fun and frivolity in the magic of the pop-up Valentine Day market, hosted by Meg Gilliland of Nutmeg Style.
Bringing together some of the city’s best artists and craftspeople, Meg has organized a fun event with a fabulous mix of finds. With her background in event planning, floral design and social networking, Meg easily puts together unique vendors of ceramics, jewelry, apparel, foods, home décor and fresh flowers. One of her finds this year is unique skin products to soothe your woes, from Sandy Bartel of Body Butter. “It’s just fabulous,” says Jennifer Reis, a professional housekeeper who really knows what dry hands can feel like.
I Heart You Valentine’s Market offers manufacturers and goods that are unique as you are—so you can treat your special someone(s)—or yourself, if there’s no one else to do it.
This year, let’s do something different. Let’s forget about sending Valentine cards and buy ourselves unique stationery instead. Let’s find the best chocolates and forget to share. For just once, let’s send ourselves flowers just because we’re worth the delivery charge. And, for goodness’ sake, let’s skip amateur night out at the restaurants.
Come spend an afternoon at Nutmeg’s I Heart You, February 11. We’ll be the ones with the paraffin dip on our hands!
