From The Editor: You Oughta Snow
Batten down the hatches and dig out your fanciest scarf, because the winter season is officially upon us! Although I have to ask, did we even have an actual autumn this year? It’s like summer decided to overstay its welcome throughout September, then once October arrived, Minnesota decided to roll out the red carpet for the cold snowy season early. Not fair, man, not fair.
But I digress! For us Minnesotans, winter is an inevitability that allows for tons of exciting events and activities to remind us that, in spite of the reduced sunlight and colder temperatures, it’s not all that bad. From the Holidazzle and the (returning!) Art Shanty Projects, to LUSH’s Christmas Cabaret and the Lake Harriet Kite Festival, there will be plenty of fun things for us to do in the Twin Cities and beyond over the next several months.
Enjoy, then, this edition of our annual Winter What To Do issue, where our titular guide lays out a plethora of winter events that’ll rouse you from your hibernation. Also in this issue, yours truly will take you on a trip through the sun-soaked paradise of Palm Springs, and we also meet Dean Packingham, CEO of the delightful Mike & Jen’s Hot Cocoa in Duluth.
Our friend Bradley Traynor also returns with a brand-new Eat The Menu piece on the fantastic Cecil’s Deli in St. Paul, Carla Waldemar walks us through the wonders of Wichita and Kansas City, and we recap the amazing cruises taken by the 2018 and 2019 winners of Lavender‘s Cover and a Cruise contests!
So as far as the upcoming season goes, don’t worry, folks. We got this. Bring it on, Old Man Winter. Do your worst.
Okay, not your worst. I was just kidding. Please be gentle.
