Prime Timers MSP and LBFE hold Pre-Pride Party on June 13

By Harry Hartigan

On the threshold of PRIDE 2013 Prime Timers MSP has partnered with TC PRIDE, AARP Minnesota and Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly to create a SENIOR/BOOMER/ELDER area for PRIDE 2013.  The vision is to create an area that is SENIOR/BOOMER/ELDER friendly and that celebrates the SENIORS/BOOMERS/ELDERS of the GLBTQA community and all seniors and elders.  There will be a Pre-PRIDE Party at Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly on June 13, 2013 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.  We are very hopeful that the work that has been done to create this SENIOR/BOOMER/ELDER area will culminate in a wonderful beginning for future PRIDE Events.  Stay tuned for additional information on this project.

Having served on the Prime Timers MSP board for the past 14 years and as a past president I see more clearly the value that our organization brings to our members and the GLBTQA community.  We are the ELDERS of the GLBTQA community.  We are older and wiser by virtue of our life experiences.  No one, including the ELDERS, is sure how to address the ELDERS in the GLBTQA community (seniors, older adults, mature men and women, etc…) but without question we bring value to the GLBTQA community.  We are not invisible nor should we be.  We need to hold our heads up high and be proud of who we are and what we bring to the GLBTQA community.  We will set the bar for generations to come.  We should stand shoulder to shoulder when any one hints at disrespecting us.

Prime Timers MSP is a group of ELDERS who are and will make a difference.  We are a group of individuals who are extremely talented, active, OUT, proud and so very much more.  We are wise and we have a wealth of knowledge and skills.  We are not to be discounted in any way.  I have seen the power we bring to life each and every day.  I would encourage each member of Prime Timers MSP to stand tall and proud and all GLBTQA Elders to stand tall as well.   I know that sometimes we feel invisible and we question our value but we do have tremendous value.  I, like others, sometimes think that no one wants to hear what I have to say or know what I am thinking.  I know that I have value and my experiences have taught me great lessons.

Respectfully,

Harry Hartigan
