Luna Vinca Does It All
“We do not have formulas or wedding packages, all of our designs are custom order. Whether you prefer tight and compact, or big and wild arrangements, we do it all.”
Such words from floral designer Clare Hoogesteger are a welcome relief for couples thinking about their wedding. She continues, “We’ve always strived to be completely honest and provide excellent customer service. We often receive compliments on our promptness and attention to detail.”
She is referring to Luna Vinca, the floral shop that opened in 1998 in Uptown before moving to the North Loop in 2009. Owner Jennifer Guion wanted to blend her interests in both science and art, and branched out into a few professions before settling on floral design. The growing business creates award-winning wedding flowers, event florals, and daily deliveries. During the almost 20-year history as owner of Luna Vinca, Guion has cultivated invaluable relationships and knowledge of the huge variety of event venues in the Twin Cities area. She still looks forward to what changes the future will bring to the design industry.
Currently, Hoogesteger is noticing a return to more natural looking designs in the industry. “Lots of greenery and foliage, and loose organic shapes are very popular,” she says. “This spring and summer, couples are gravitating toward neutral tones with greenery, and pops of rosy pink and lavender.”
The best advice Hoogesteger could give couples is to allow for some flexibility when choosing your flowers. Notably, in terms of availability. “Some things just aren’t available, which is frustrating for us and our clients,” she says. “Dahlias, for example, are not in great condition in the spring and summer months, and almost everybody loves them.”
She also encourages couples to be careful with their color choices, and warns not to choose a wedding color that is really close to a color that you dislike. She says, “Flowers only come in the colors that they come in. For example, if you love Claret red but hate burgundy, it will be hard to find flowers that work for you.”
Pinterest inspiration comes with a caution as well. It can be nice to have an idea of what you’re looking for, but keep in mind that many of the ideas are taken from expensive celebrity weddings. And with that in mind, Hoogesteger has one final note for couples: “If flowers are important for your wedding, your budget should reflect that.”
