Founded in 1995, Because We Care: Minnesota Performing Arts Alliance Responding to AIDS helps people living with HIV/AIDS. Its purpose is “to mobilize the abilities of the performing arts community to support direct service through events and increase public awareness of HIV/AIDS.”

The organization began as a small group of concerned individuals who wanted to offer support to those affected by HIV/AIDS. Today, it’s an all-volunteer funding group that offers counseling, food programs, and financial aid.

Because We Care is presenting Bohemian Cirko, a 10-in-1 circus sideshow, on June 14 at the History Theatre in St. Paul. For more information, visit www.becausewecaremn.com.

The Ann Bancroft Foundation held its 11th annual gala, Explore the 4 Corners of the World, on May 1 at The Depot in Downtown Minneapolis. The fund-raiser offered cuisine, music, and languages from around the world, as well as street entertainers, plus the Explorer Signature Cocktail for the adults. An exciting range of presenters included not only Ann Bancroft herself, but also members of the Minnesota Lynx and the 2008 DreamMaker Award winners.

The Ann Bancroft Foundation is known for helping young women achieve their dreams. Each year, thousands of dollars are donated to girls all over Minnesota who otherwise would not have such an opportunity.
